Nothing gets designed in one place. A courtyard in Marrakech cools a clinic in Cordoba; a weaver in Cusco writes the rule a generative system runs on. We follow those exchanges closely, name everyone involved, and publish the terms they were made on.

Reading a Textile as a Grid

Borrowing is not the problem. Borrowing quietly is.

We find the exchange, then ask
Curators go to the people who hold a tradition and put the request in writing: what is wanted, what it is for, and what is offered in return. The answer is sometimes no, and no ends the project.

We show both halves in one room
Every exhibition hangs the source beside the response, with the survey drawings, the counts, the costs and the rejected versions left in. Visitors get the working, not the conclusion.

We publish the terms and the tools
Resources, teaching packs and typefaces are released free under an open licence, makers named as co-authors, licensing income shared. The agreements are printed in full.

The two documents people ask us for most.
